Graduate Textile Designer Wanted – Mumbai

We have a client based in Mumbai, India – who is offering 1 UK designer the opportunity of a 1 year contract to work in their studio in Mumbai. We’re looking for a designer that has fine art/sketching skills, along with colouration skills, and compilation skills with which they can make collections.

Over the last 10 years we have sent many graduates to India – so you can talk to them about their experiences before you decide to take the job.  Many of these designers have come back and found jobs with Romo, Harlequin, Prestigious, GPJ Baker, Ashley Wilde and other major brands due to the experience gained.

First interviews will take place with myself November 2017.  If you have already been interviewed by me then please just let me know if you are interested or not. The shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by my client and the chosen designer will travel out to India in January/February 2017.

  • They currently have a team of 8 designers (all of which speak excellent English), including one designer from the UK.
  •            You will be working on creating designs, as well as doing colourations of individual designs, and creating collections for their customers from all around the world including the UK.
  • Currently, the company is using software such as NedGraphics, Sophis and EAT for jacquards, and iCliqq for embroidery. The designer from the UK is not expected to have knowledge of these as training will be given as required. However, you will be expected to work with the users of these software to brief them in terms of weave effects, or embroidery stitches, in order to create the desired look on the designs which you have created.
  • The company also has Corel Draw and Photoshop, and can procure AVA if needed.
  • You would also be expected to help represent the company at Heimtextil at Frankfurt where the company exhibits. Any experience in visual merchandising for product displays would be helpful.
  • The company will arrange and pay for all your travelling expenses including the return flights twice a year for holidays (London-Mumbai return). Your living arrangements will be sharing a 2-bedroom apartment at a convenient location that the company will rent for you, where the other UK designer currently lives, and also reimburse the cost of local conveyance to and from work.
  • The new graduate will be paid 650 GBP per month. This will give you a very comfortable living in India. You will work 6 days a week.
  • Office hours: 10:30 am – 7:00 pm Mon- Fri; 10:30 am– 4:30 pm Sat. Lunch break 1:30 pm – 2:00 pm
  • You will receive Sundays off as well as certain Indian religious holidays, and National holidays. You will receive 20 days per year of paid holiday.
